When I found my 411 this past June, she had a noticable hyd. cylinder leak, and I took it to be an easy repair It calls for a03869ab oil seal.Any idea if that seal is a single or double lip seal?I wonder if Napa carries that seal?

Chuck, a look at CIH parts site shows an oring as the pressure seal and the external seal simply a dirt wiper. The cylinder will require complete disassembly to access the gland oring and there are seals on the piston as well that you will want to replace in a complete rebuild basis.

Chuck: When you disassemble the cylinder, there is a nut that holds the piston on at the bottom of the shaft. The nut has dimples on it. It will act like it is comming off, but it will screw the threads up on the shaft. I would suggest cutting the nut off and getting a new nut to save the shaft. The top yoke is actually threaded on, depending on if it has been welded in place or not, you may be able to unscrew it from the top to replace the seal. Once you take the top plate off there is a snapring to take out and the fitting on the side has to be removed for disassembly. Good luck! |

I had one apart, so I went and looked at the seal. The original seals look like leather, there were two seals in it, one is put in to hold fluid in, and the top one is put in upside down, to keep water out. I would think double lip seals would work ok. |

After reading mEl's post, I went back and looked again. I am wrong again, the top seal is in upside down, but what I thought was the bottom seal was actually the casting that is above where the O ring goes. mEl, you are the master. |
