Does anyone know where I can find a quick hitch for a number 5 mower. My 68 yr old father inlaw is looking for one.
He already has the mounts for the tractor. |

A 'quick hitch' is commonly a device that pins onto a 3pt on the tractor, and has hooks instead of holes so it is very easy to back into and hook up a 3pt implement.
The only trouble with them is some 3pt implements are not designed to common standards, and have a poor design so the top hook can't fit into the upper 3pt connection.
There are many quick hitch manufaturers, can find them on the shelves of any TSC, Fleet & Farm, or implement dealer of any color. Frm auctions and the like often have them for $100 or so.
I suppose I should know what a No 5 mower is, probably a John Deere I think, but might help to fill us in a little better?
And perhaps the 'quick hitxch' you want is something different than what I am describing?
Just trying to help figure it out, is all. :)

IIRC what he wants is not the current style Quik-Hitch that we use. I think the lower bracket is a heavy pipe or shaft that mounts on the drawbar, and the mower has two Y-shaped castings on the front. Back the tractor/bar into the mower, close or pin the mower brackets. Quicker than having to align/install bolts. |

Brian, all you need is the front bar that has the break away in it.There should be some laying around in barns-fence rows. The scrap people have done away with a lot of them. |

Make a call out to David from Kansas on this forum or the John Deere forum; he might have what you need.
Here are a few photos of the Quik-Tach Hitch for the John Deere #5 mower.
Here's the parts list from the Operator's Manual.

I don't mind your comment, or even disagree with it maybe.
However, many times folk come on here with questions and list some partial info on what implement/ device they are talking about.
He never mentioned it was a John Deere mower, he mentioned it was a No 5 is all.
That is kind of like talking about an H tractor. I would assume it is a Farmall, but it could be a JD, hard to say for sure.
Many other tractors and implements 'share' a model letter or number.
Perhaps my message should have simply been:
"What brand of mower are you talking about?"
But that seemed a little short, so I added in some extra comments and speculation.
The same speculation you did, that it is actuually a JD mower that he is talking about?

James, did or didn't the NO9 use the same drawbar,if they did then that is another supply.I know the hitch is the same, but not sure on the bar itself. |

The JD No. 9 sickle mower attached to the lift arms on the 3 point hitch.
Found this photo of the JD No. 9 on the web to show the difference.
We have a JD No. 39N sickle mower that was once attached to our 52 Model A.
Hope this helps. |

Minnesota Prison Industries made a #5 semi-mount mower (not many people would know that), and A-C had a #5 sickle mower as well. |

Tim & James,I was wrong and couldn't remember which was which because we had a semi mount with a 9FT.bar and was thinking that was the number. We got rid of it,but still have 2 NO5s.Glad you caught that. |
