On the back of the L radiators there is a copper tube which runs from inside the filler opening down to the bottom of the radiator, on the outside of the radiator. It was clipped to the bottom of the radiator housing with some sort of small clip. I am rebuilding a radiator which didn't have that clip. Does anybody know what it looked like?

Steve, On the LAs it is a small plate about two inches long, one inch wide, with rounded ends and about .100" thick. it has a hole for one of the radiator bolts, and another snug fitting hole to slip the copper tube through. This allows the positioning of the copper tube so it can drain out without getting all over the tractor. The copper tube has to be curved so as not to get in the fan (usually to the right side of the tractor) and through the plate mounted to the bolt of your choice at the bottom of the radiator. Give yourself lots of copper tubing to play with. ---Derrol in Texas---

Derrol, thanks for the help. Knowing what to look for, I found the "clamp" in a can full of screws, nuts, etc. that came off when I was trying to get one good radiator out of two leaky ones.

Steve, The old radiator tubes had a seam all the way down that was soldered. Heating and cooling of the radiator eventually loosens these seams for multiple leaks which are hard to fix. Best way is to "Bite the Bullet" and buy a new radiator core with seamless tubes. Last one I bought was $550, which included new gaskets, but pleased to say I have had no trouble with it. ---Derrol in Texas---
