If you have a distributor check the points and coil. Maybe the ignition was left on and cooked the coil or points and discharged the battery.

Is the battery shorted or grounded? That would be how it is dead, and why it won't fire even after you charge it. I don't know what other symptoms you have, but I would remove the battery set the multimeter to ohms, and with all switches (Lights ignition everything open)off start hopscotching starting with the bat term.

Fill in the whole story. Did you or some one else leave the ignition on??? What has or has not been done??? How long was it since you last started it??? Things like that can help us help you.
That said the most likely cause is corroded points from sitting and not running. Easy ways you can test that is do a simple hot wire from the battery to the coil and if you have spark then your problem is from the coil back to the battery if you still have no fire then the problem is from the coil forward
