|
|
Putting the motor back together for my 65 Ford 3500 TLB (3 cly diesel) and come to find the lower gasket set I have includes 2 oil pan gaskets, one think (~1/8") and the other thin (normal paper gasket thickness) but otherwise identical in all respects. The only thing I can figure is that one if for the cast iron pan and one is for the stamped steel style. My guess is the thin one is for the cast pan and thicker for the stamped, is this correct? I'm concerned about running into bolt alignment issues when I go to put this thing back in...
Thanks,
~John |

OEM pan gasket for cast pan is a steel gasket, so your choice of the thin gasket in your kit is likely correct. |

You are correct, the thick gasket is for the stamped steel pan, and the thin gasket is for the cast pan. |

Got the motor in today, everything seems to have lined up properly, so I guess it was the right choice.
Also proved that it's possible to pull the motor without removing the loader or disconnecting the steering. I was able to get the nose casting and axle far enough forward to get the engine clear of the bellhousing, just had to get tall enough a-frame to get the motor over the loader arms. Relatively painless all things considered. |
