|
|
My dad bought a brand new 312-8 wheel horse in 1986; needless to say my mom is sort of attached to it since he passed away in 1997. She has mowed about 2 acres with it trouble free since new. The only problems have been related to typical operator error like driving over sticks and bits of wire.
Lately she complains that is too loud. I was wondering if I could re-pack the exhaust like I do on my FMF dirt bike muffler. I mean the glass mat must be all blown out and that is why it has gotten so noisy? |

Might be able to, don't think a garden tractor muffler has
packing in it, they just have a baffle and it probebly rotted out,
u should try doubt it works, you'd have better luck buying a
new muffler for 20 bucks or so. |

I would check eng id tag again, both toro & partstree websites list avail engines for 86 312 as being kohler K181-341,KT17 or magnum 20,after you find out mod/hp of eng goto ebay & search kohler muffler and also wheel horse muffler, you may find a good used muffler or new muffler for a better price. |

Piping out to side and a stack muffler from FArm store? Farmall 1 or IH 1? labeled one is small enough for pipe and will clamp on. Get a "flapper" for top too. OR, can use pipe again and angle down and just put on a 'pepper-pot" generic muffler available from any Lawn tracto dealer for cheap. Some hardware stores might have that one. My Ace does. |
