Are the Ford 555 series backhoes good reliable machines? Can parts still be found for these or are they hard to find? Any weak points in these machines?

Some of the common stuff is the same as tractors.Very easy to get that stuff at my local New Holland dealer.
I think the ones with the torque converters may be a weak spot ? Ours didn't run very fast up a slope on the road.
Very strong lift on the loaders.

Your converter needs to be rebuilt. A transmission shop that does converters can do it for half of what you'll pay CNH.
