This is a stereoscope card I got from my grandmother years ago printed in 1902. The text is the description on the back.

That is an incredible photo. I wonder how long and how many men it took to hitch up all those horses. Thanks for posting this! Don

Wow, those horses are trampling a lot of grain. Or, perhaps they are eating as they go!

Here's a couple more.
Pic#1 Bests & Best 110HP oil fired steamer with 40ft. Balanced Beam Harvester. Pic#2 harvest camp. and last, a Holt Jr. steamer with Holt rice harvester, north of Sacromento. Pics. courtiousy of Higgins collection.
Well went to preview and got a couple extra pics., so the one with the car in front of the combine is of CL Best, (passenger) watching one of his machines

Holt and Best combined to form Caterpillar. Kind of an interesting story on how it happened.

The story goes that they were constantly in court over patent infringements and the like and the judge had had enough. He asked one of the men if he would sell out to the other and got a 'no' for a reply. He turned to the other and asked the same question and and also got a 'no'. So the judge said well 'then I order you two to combine your businesses and form a partnership' and as Paul Harvey would 'the rest is history'.

Optical illusion. They are reaching the bottom of the hill and the field goes uphill again, looking like the horses are in the grain.
