We just finished our clubs tractor this year, it did not have a serial number plate on it. The casting numbers end with a J, can someone let us know what year this tractor made. Thanks for your help. |

J is the casting code symbol for 1940. If the engine is the original factory (and not a replacement or salvage) engine the s/n should be the same as the chassis no. as they maintained that relationship throughtout the production of the H tractors. Hope this helps, Hal. |

Hal, thanks for your help, I was surprised it was a 1940. We had no idea, seveal of us thought it would be about a 1946. Now we can tell people what year it is. Again thanks for your help. |

Yes farmallhal is a good helpful fellow. So I don't want to offened him.
Just add a little to his answer. Letter is for the casting date of the part and not exactly when the tractor was built. For example a part cast in 1940 could be on a tractor built in 1941.
More common if the part was cast late in 1940. |

Dave, Your historial knowledge is very welcome and I always look forward to your comments on this forum - you note a very good possibility and if the original engine is still in the tractor with a s/n within the range of those of 1940 manufacture (10653-52386) I think it could be nailed down. Merry Christmas Dave to you and yours. |
