jd,
I have a 500cc Buck. Purchased used 3 or 4 years ago. It's very cold natured but always starts if choked properly, pull out all the way to start and then about half way in to warm up.

I sware I remember reading in here before someone having all kinds of trouble with one they bought used. I want to say that after everything they tried the ended up taking the muffler off and something about how the baffles were in it was creating too much back pressure I could be wrong but u might try and search the forums I know it has been on here before.....

I bought one new and it always has been cold blooded but nothing like your describing. I pull the choke out all the way and pump the throttle a couple times. I do turn the idle up just a little in the winter as well.
