'02 duramax issue

Hey all, my '02 duramax has just over 315,000 miles and recently started acting strange. Just driving around it will be fine but if I need to jump on it a bit like getting on interstate or pulling something it won't continue to accelerate once it hits about 2100 rpms. It will hit that rpm range and just lay down and flatten out almost like it has hit a governor or something. If I back out of it a bit it will shift, rpms drop, and will accelerate again until it reaches 2100 again. I just replaced the air filter. Anyone ever had this? Any ideas? Thanks.

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Are you running biodiesel my 05 will do that with bio. Also as said before change fuel filter.

Not running bio but will change fuel filter.

It should be changed a minimum of every 10,000 miles if your using the factory filtration system.

A friend chipped his 08 and about 50 MPH was top end. They could not get to work, so removed it. Was showing low fuel pressure. Now he is having sporadic problems of the same nature and has a new filter. I was going to use the same brand, Truck Edition in my 11 F250 to try to get over 15MPH that I am now getting at best and this is babying it empty. I am going to try to nail them down on the warranty. I could go with the chip, EGR and DEF delete, and exhaust for $2K plus labor. But for 5K miles a year it is not worth it. I know why Ford does not put a mileage sticker on the windshield now!

For sure on the spare in the truck along with one of those 10-mile belts that might break as you round the corner on the backside of hell.Never fails when you need one you are in the middle of No- where

+1 on change the fuel filter. If it still hits a wall @ 2100, it may have a stuck unison ring in the turbo.

If you're getting 15 mpg on a 6.7 Powerstroke, that's better than most empty. Anybody who says they're in the 20's either has a math problem, has done a egr/dpf delete, or is just lying.

Replace it with a Cummins powered Dodge!!! LOL

My '06 does the same when I am pulling a load. I am told that the injectors or the injector pump is about to go out. Costs several thousand to have it fixed.

Injectors are warrantied 7yrs or 200,000 miles and are not common problem points, especially on an "06.

Well, I just replaced the fuel filter and took it for a drive. At least for now it seems like that took care of the problem. I appreciate everyone chiming in. Sometimes it is the simple things that we overlook.

P.S. I'm not knocking the Cummins cuz I know it is a great engine, but I love my Chevy. Maybe if they could mate the Cummins with the Allison in a Chevy truck...
