Almost a year ago I took a "little" heat for a response I made on a subject regarding needed tools request from someone who may not have had much experience in using them. I related a story about a nice neighbor, albeit inexperienced, who bought a "rough" 70s Corvette he "thought" he was going to restore.

Turns out this story has a happy ending: He finally realized this project was way above his skill level and sold it. He used part of the money from the sale to buy a new "sort of go-cart/dune buggy" for himself and the kids to use on some acreage he has in upstate NY. It needed some assembly and he called me over because he couldn't get it to run right. Turns out he inserted the fuel line into the carburettor vent instead of the needle and seat input. Took 5 minutes to straighten out and he was happy as a clam and the kids got a Christmas present that almost had them wet their pants. A great Christmas for all.

Some guys are like that.
A local medical doctor, now retired, has been a water skiing and deer hunting buddy of mine for close to 40 years. "Doc" grew up on a farm before he became a doctor, and after establishing a local medical practice he once had a next door neighbor who was totally inept mechanically.
Doc used to regale me with stories like on one Christmas day his neighbor was trying to assemble a bicycle for one of his kids, and Doc had to step in, remove all the wrong and cross-threaded nuts and bolts, and do it right. |
