That 16 hp K341 is a highly desirable motor. Unless the block is cracked or ventilated by a departing rod, it is usually better and cheaper to overhaul it than replace it.

If you want to repower the tractor the most popular setup is the Briggs Vanguard, avalailable from several online sources. They will sell a kit to make the swap almost plug-and-play.

I have one. Unfortunately it is in Oklahoma a is heavy. So, shipping would be expensive.

If you can find a reasonable way to move it, let me know.

I bought a Kohler short block for a JD140 back in 1980. Back then they were about $300.00. Hal

Smallenginewarehouse has a 341 short block for
$950.00. Hal
PS: You would use the old pan and head off the old engine block. Gaskets may come with the short block.

Overhaul should run about $500 if your block and crank can be machined to a standard oversize/undersize.

You should be able to find a good used 16HP Kohler pretty cheap as there are many tractors and equipment that used them.JD does have sort of an odd oil pan so you need to watch that, think Cub Cadet is the same.
