In theory, at least, you can get a generator with tach drive- first series Corvettes used them. Not to understate it, they are a "little difficult" to find. The word "Unobtainium" comes to mind.

But on the bright side, they are not as rare as alternators with tach drives, which, as far as I know, do not exist.

As far as I know, you should be able to buy a reman. gen. with the end that accepts a tach. drive. appropriate for the MF tractors.
I helped a neighbor rebuild his 65 a couple years ago and we got new tach. drive parts for it then. The gen. was OK.
The tach. drive parts looked identical to what AC used on the 170-180-190,etc. tractors, on the early DR alternator.

Why not put a strip of magnetic tape on the crankshaft, install the sensor pickup, and use an electronic Tach.
