Hi. I switched to a smartphone and got rid of my laptop
some time ago. Since then, i have not been able to post any
photos to any forum. Classic or modern, it dont matter.
What am i doing wrong? Thanks for a great site by the way,
and happy holidays! |

I wish I could help you but I've never used one. I know that iPhones used to have a restriction where they wouldn't generate the photo in a format that could be used normally, it was by intention and I'd have to see where that went (it was the early units which I don't think are even used now). Kim uses an iPhone so I'll ask her. On the other phones I'm totally in the dark. Maybe someone else here on the site will see this and say how they've done it. I think both kinds have been used to post photos before, I just don't know how.
I will do some research to see if there is anything I can do to make it work. |

Thank you. Mine is a Samsung. . .maybe my picture quality is too high? I have tried finding a way to set the picture quality, but there is no lower setting. Dont go out of your way to figure it out, just whenever you have time. Its not the end of the world lol . |

Does the download start but then just stop? It would be quality then, we have a 300kb cap on the photos. Let me know because I could tweak that. |

Could you find out how many meg the file is that it generates for the size? Can you change size? I'll look into this stuff too. |

Okay i did some research and found how to set quality. I got the size down to 326 kb. Will that be enough? |

I didn't find the size for androids, but iphones generate photos from .5 to 1.5 mbs. On iphone, there is a webstore app that lets you change file and photo size plus do some other manipulations. There may be something like that for the android too.
I will change the .3 mb we currently accept upwards but I can't go too much larger as we have so many photos, 100s of thousands now and we never delete them.
You can crop a photo on the android and this can help the size by getting rid of background that isn't really intentional. Here is the process to do that:

I'll see what else I can find and I'll post back here when I've upped the input size allowed. |

I tried it again at 326 kb. Still no luck, i waited about seven
min during upload attempt and finally just stopped. I
appreciate what you have done so far! Thanks, Mike. |

No, the current limit is 300, anything over that, the server just stops accepting input. I will bump it to 500 when I find where it's done again (been a couple of years). |

I figured out one way to do it. I send the image to my
message inbox, i.e. send to myself lol. That compresses the
image to 13kb. Then i can retrieve it, save the attachment to
my gallery and post instantly. Hopefully this info may help
others as well. Thanks ! |

I use to email the picture to myself as this would reduce the pic size. Then download it to My Documents or Pictures. Hal |

I think I've doubled the limit allowed on photo uploads on the Classic forum and Tractorshed galleries. This may turn out to be a mistake in that spammers can more easily slow the server down attempting to post massive spam photos. If so I'll have to set it back down, but for now, it's doubled and should be a little more resilient to devices that don't give all the options for photo file size changes.
I didn't change Modern View yet. Let me know if that is the need.
Thanks,
Chris |
