My uncle purchased a new 1466 black stripe in the spring of '76 and we ran it for years and later traded it off for a 7120 magnum in '94 or so. That thing had a whopping 2300 hrs when we got rid of it. I always remember it being a royal pain to shift sometimes and was glad to see it go. It was a good reliable horse though. Anyway I had a guy tell me in conversation we were nuts letting a black stripe go for such a low trade. Was there something special about the black stripes? |

Black stripes were the cream of the crop for the '66 series. Highly coveted, I believe they were only made for one year. Not only that, they look nice too.. |

I had a 1066 BS that I bought new in the winter of 1976. I know they are popular now but with ll the problems I had with the 66 & 86 series I have no desire to own another one. Only reason I don't have green equipment now was because I couldn't get a deere dealer to take them in on trade. Traded for a new '87 7120 and have never regretted staying red but comparing a 66 / 86 series to a Magnum is like comparing a Cadillac to a pedal car. |
