Hey Guys! Got a 1566 that is having some trouble with 1st gear. It won"t go in and I"m not sure if its the transmission or the shifting linkages. Worst case scenario, if it were the transmission what am I looking at to fix it? Hoping it will be the linkages but my luck it"ll be the trans...TIA |

You may be lucky and only have to remove the speed transmission cover if it is not in external linkage. You are talking about the three speed transmission I take it. Couple different things happen under there. Loose or broken off bolts holding shift rail is most likely. There is a bridge available to help support that mechanism. Also, some of the shift cams would allow roller to come out of the end, not likely if you have other two gears though. |

Jack, It may be a shifting fork!!! Had a shifting fork break on mine this summer. Wasn't a terribly deep surgery to fix it. Don't get twisted yet!
