Hey Old, I have Kats block heaters in all my trucks Blazers and even my 4 hole Saturn. My Ns have had L/rad. hose heaters and one has a head to block Kats. You said that a block heater would not, and no way fit in an N. Well you could have knocked me over with a feather, I never gave it much thought when I looked for one and no can find.Is it because of the length of the heating element and the water jacket is too narrow? Or freeze plug locations? I did find Kats 28mm screw in that has an internal element if ya wanted to tap low in the block, but I wont be the one to experiment on. So did you find out the hard way that a freeze plug block heater wont work on an N? Thanks for the heads up.

There are 2 types of plugs. The one they used on the N blocks don't work with a heater. I should say that the block is different & won't accept a heater. Clear as mud?

My wife's car has an oil pan heater--basically glued onto the bottom of the oil pan. That was installed when the block heater failed, and the shop said that attempting to remove it for replacement had a risk of wrecking the block...

It seems to work just fine in cold weather. It applies the heat closer to where it's needed (i.e. in the oil) than a block heater.

The location of the freeze plugs and the cylinders etc just do not allow enough room for a block type coolant heater and would you believe I do not know that first hand but Dell has said it many time on here as have one or 2 others. I have never tried to put any type of heater on an N series tractor because I have never used my 8N in winter so do not need it but being a retired truck driver I know the coolant heater is the best way to go and those cause the least amount of problems. Oil pan heaters while type do heat the oil does not help a lot because the oil is in the pan and some have been known to even burn the oil and burned oil is bad news for an engine

Kats used to make a headbolt heater that screws in place of the center of headbolt on the rear of the engine . I have one on my 48 8n ford tractor and it works fine. I wish somebody could get Kats to make them again
