have a harry ferguson ser to 435 no motor plate wld like to know about it its gas has 48 casting date on axel tubes any info wld be greatly appreciated thanks

If the serial number you found was on the top of the dash between the steering column and the hood I would say you have the 435th Ferguson TO 20 tractor that was built in Detroit, Mi. just after the Ferguson plant was built. I would say that was built in Jan. of 1949. What else would you like to know?

thank you. just got it on a swap deal wld it be a cont engine and is there a casting number for id on the block ? TO - 435 was on the tag at the steering wheel i was told it was a masey and it has masey decals lol is the model number figured by the 435 or ?

Yes it should be a Z 120 Continental engine the cast letters should be able to be seen below the oil dip stick. It was a Ferguson when built but Massey Harris bought Ferguson out in 1953 and now everything that was Ferguson is now listed under Massey Ferguson. If you want to restore it there should be no Massey decals on that tractor at all everything will show Harry Ferguson or Ferguson and should be almost all grey except for starter generator etc. Model number was figured by the serial number. TO 20s were numbered from 1 to 60000. Price depends on to many things to give a good price as some could bring $400 and others could bring $3000 in REAL nice shape.

thank you richard you have been a big help im gona finish the swap deal n look for a rear wheel n repaint it get some decals n get ahold of a local fl tractor club n hang out might pull down n rings n bearings n gaskets

Richard, what colour did the American factory paint the starter and generator? I know the British built factory painted them grey with the rest of the chassis.

Per Paul's paint scheme tables the TO-20 painted the starter and genny grey like the castings. He lists the TO-30 having flat black painted starter and genny.

He also included this note:
Promotional literature, manuals, and other visual media sometimes showed these items as painted black and sometimes painted the colors of the castings. Often these were photos from pre-production prototypes. The color schemes shown here lean toward those used on production-line units. However, it is not unreasonable to assume that assembly sequences may have changed in mid-production for any particular model. Use of paint schemes shown in promotional literature and manuals is perfectly acceptable, depending upon the preferences of the restorer.


BTW, Learn to spell color correctly Sam.

Sam, you are suppose to ask Tony these hard questions. Okay the generator, starter, distributor, radiator were painted black. The hoses voltage reg., coil were black also but not necessarily painted by Ferguson.

It is 'U' lot whot canney spell, Jeff ! Must bring you over an English dickshunry....LOL .....Going by this well known picture the first TOs had the dynamo painted grey. And I am sure in production the starters and dynamos were fitted and the bare chassis test started before painting. In Coventry the hoses were also painted grey, and in NJ they paint them yellow or blue or maybe red!!!

Sam, I believe they are called generators. My Ferguson shop manual says nothing about a dynamo. Did you get one that was misprinted? LOL
