JD 45- Quick attach feeder house ?

The 234 corn head needs some new parts which are no longer available from JD. So what are options now? Can a JD 45 combine be fitted with a quick attach feeder house that uses the quick attach corn heads and platforms of later series combines ? Could the 234 corn head which has row units and feeder house built together as one big unit, be modified to a where the feeder house portion of said unit could become a quick attach style feeder house where a more modern quick attach corn head or grain platform would work?

A cheaper option would be to find another 234 head or better yet a 235 head.Where are you located? There is a Bowie equipment in Tipton Ia that has lots of older combines and heads for parts and many good used parts inside.We have bought several parts from him for our 95's. His phone # 563-886-6946. He recently had a 45 with a nice head on that he was going to part out.He may have the quick attach feeder house as well.The quick attach is a good way to go but you will have a large amount of money tied up with buying the feederhouse,cornhead and a grain platform.The 244 cornhead sticks out much further in front of the machine than the 234 or 235 and is not quite as nice that way and I like the 235 because you can adjust the deck plates and rolls easily.The 244 is a good head as we have one on our 300 picker and on our 3940 chopper for making snaplage.

Thanks Tom. I guess I will have to try and find parts from a salvage yard as you suggest. I will contact the place in Tipton first of week. I am in North Carolina and I do not know of any combine salvage in the state. You seem to know much about the older JD combines. As to my question about a quick attach style feeder house for the 45, do ones from later series machines fit right on the 45? From which later series would one come from, the 3300, 4400, 4420? Any other info is appreciated. Please send me a personal e-mail so I can send back to you the parts page showing the parts I need.

The 45 feederhouse was offered by Deere after 45 production had ceased. The ones from newer combines won't be the right width. They are out there, though, as many older combines were equipped to work with the newer heads. I have one on our 105, and it has been used with a 1993 643 head.

I have a 435W head that would be good for parts, it is in the shed, and I'd like the space. I don't know what parts you need, an Wis. is a long way from you.

i believe you have to have one off a 45. i think a 3300 or 4400 is a wider throat. if i new how much to ask i have a feeder house and a 244 head. also a 344 head. in central Ohio.

cooney minnie, yeah, I'm a long way from Wis., would you consider removing the parts I need from your head? If anyone out there has a junker model 234,235,335,or 435 corn head the parts are the same for all. Parts page and item listings show parts numbers. Key item # 37 ( bracket, snap roll bearing L.H. )is what I need most. It was destroyed when bearing #39 in the flangette failed . That allowed stalk roll assembly to move forward and allowed key item #36 (flute, snap roll, lower, L.H.) to rub on the bracket which is a casting. It is destroyed. Also, the flute may be somewhat worn back in length. So to get this thing operative again it would be best to have both parts.( I will take a complete stalk roll assembly as long as bracket is good). The entire stalk roll must be removed from the head in order to get these parts. This entails removing drive chain at rear of stalk rolls, remove #24, #23, #22, #21 and #25 from rear of left and right stalk rolls. The bearing should be locked to the shaft in some manner, so it may be simplest to remove the front side of the flangette and remove the stalk roll as an assembly. However , to do so would require removal of both stalk rolls. On the left stalk roll, remove three small bolts in a triangular shaped piece of plate steel( not shown)which has #33 bolted to it. Right side stalk roll has a two bolt attachment for the stalk roll front bearing bracket( #7).
Any one knowing of any salvage yards that may have any of the a fore mentioned corn heads, please let me know. Thanks , Weldon K.
