I have several thousand slides, color,B&W negatives I would like to digitize. I need to be able to do up to 2 1/4 X 3 1/4 format. Hopefully someone on this board has experience and can point me the best scanner. I do have a full dark room set up,but haven't used it in 25 years. Many of the pictures are of farming in the 60's and prior. Many are ones I would like to post.
Thanks Bill |

Have owned 2 different scanners, both Epson. The first one would scan slides and negatives, in addition to everything else. I digitized all the old photos from my deceased parents picture boxes. It worked GREAT, but gave up the ghost after about 8 or 9 years. No longer needed to scan slides/negatives, so current scanner won't do so; if I were in the market, I'd look seriously at an Epson with those capabilities. |

Funny you should ask. I just got one. After reading numerous reviews I got one of the 'Ion' brand converters. It had a better customer satisfaction rating but I think it is one of those things where you get what you pay for. It does the job but it doesn't capture the whole 35 mm negative and there is some minor cropping. I don't think the color or brightness is perfect either but these are things that can be somewhat corrected with a photo editing program. I'm sure the more expensive ones are better but you approach a point of diminishing returns. Having it done professionally is an option but you need to figure how many you have. I have seen shops charge in the 70 cents a piece neighborhood and that can mount up if you have several hundred.

I have one of these, does everything you mentioned. They probably have a newer model out now but this works for me. Does everything from 35mm to 6x12cm, negatives and prints.
I'd also suggest getting good photo editing software, Photoshop is the standard. It might come with the scanner.

I have a epson scaner which came with an attachment to scan slides an negatives. The computer went down and the software with it doesn't work with windows 7. I not sure if the newer models come with the attachment or not. Anyway once a negative is scanned into the computer photoshop will reverse the image. |

I also have an Epson Perfection V 500 Scanner.
It is an excellent scanner. |
