I was wondering how big of disk mower I could cut hay with. I have a John Deere 5200 which is 45 HP. I am looking for a 8 footer but didn't know if that would be overkill for what kind of tractor I have. thanks |

I had a 2510 diesel, around 55hp, cut with a vicon 7-9 disk mower, pulled it great in 5th, but it would start to heat, never had any problems running if 4th. |

depends upon type and how heavy hay is. Seems like the discs work harder than sickle bars |

I run a 9 foot haybine with the tractor now and never has giving me a bit of trouble through thick hay. |
