Ok, I think I got all the crud out of my transmission, Now that I fill it with SAE 90 weight oil, what the heck is the difference between GL-4 and GL-1? Do you dare try to mix the two together? I put in some GL-4 already. I live in SW Minnesota if it makes a difference. Do I need a oil additive at all? The owners manual says no but that was in 1962. |

Stick with the GL-4 oil as it is rated for heavy duty hypoid gear use. It includes several friction modifiers.
GL-1 is for straight cut gears, worm gears and light duty. |
