|
|
I'm putting my water pump back together after installing new bearings and seals. Anyone have any tips on the order I should install the packing, impeller, and retainers?
In the picture below are the parts I'm curious about the order. If I put the packing in first, will I be able to get the impeller shaft through? If I do the shaft first, will I be able to get the packing in there?
Is one piece of packing enough? That is what the Case IH dealer sold me.
Thanks for your help!

You need 3 pieces of packing. It has been my experience that you should install the shaft first and press the packing in around it. They are a tight fit, just go slow and be careful. |

At least around here you can get packing at the hardware store.

Install impeller, then one packing , screw in
packing nut, remove nut and install another packing.
Install as many as you can and still get driver on
end of shaft with packing nut on. |

Thanks for the great tips, guys. I'll see if I can get some packing elsewhere because it wasn't cheap from the dealer. I see now that I zoom into the parts catalog there are three pieces pictured (even though the quantity on the parts list only said one).
Thanks, also, for the order of operations. Should I put the "Bearing clamp nut" on first (item 19 in picture below)?
You guys are a great help!
