A neighbor has a '99 2120 New Holland dsl.Twice when starting the sheathing on the wire from the starter to the glo plugs has heated up and smoked to where it is now bare at the connect to the starter. The tractor starts ok but why would this be happening. He has no internet so I'm doing the leg work.
Thanks for any suggestions.

My first guess would be a loose/ bad connection on the wire.

I'm agree with Eric. That happens a lot with lose and bad connections especially with high amperage.
