I have a '49 LA and am thinking about beefing up the engine. I was wondering if anyone has done or heard of anything being done as far as bore and stroke or porting the head. Any help would be appreciated. |

You could install a Detroit Diesel. |

I built my 1948 LA up with 4 7/8 sleeve set and an LP head. No other changes and puts out about 90 horsepower.

Hello Gene,
The L I'm familiar with wasn't known as a real fuel efficient beast. With all your changes (and I assume, compression increase) did your LA get better fuel efficiency? How much compression do you have on it now?
I've seen one of the LA's with a Cummins and there seems to have been a kit for installing a Detroit Diesel (there are a lot of them).
Cheers
