Going to reinstall the head on my 620. What is the proper torque on the head bolts and what is the proper torque pattern. |

Nothing beats having a real service manual in hand for these and many other specs.

175lbs of torque, start from the center and work your way out clockwise, then do it again, run the tractor and get it warmed up for a good hour or so, then retorque them, |

Mr. Thinker's Almanac says 150# for the heads on 620/630s. |

I wish they would made one for the 70 gas. |

There was never a SM produced for the 620/630. The substitute would be the 60 which is fairly different, or the 720 which is also pretty different.
I'm totally agree that a guy needs a set of manuals for every piece of equipment that he owns, but in this instant it is not possible.
The only way this info could be gathered would be from service bulletins. You can't get those @ 800-522-7448.
Btw. The quality of Deere manuals leaves much to be desired. The paper is thin, printing is smudged and the price is silly. Why not suggest these two cylinder and new gen guys to buy their manuals from an aftermarket place that actually strives for quality? Some how these aftermarket folks are able to make clearly printed manuals on thick paper for half the cost of Deere. It's a no-brainer. |

It's always a good idea to do the torquing three times by thirds. If the final torque is 150 ft. lbs. then do 50 all around, 100 all around and 150 final. This brings the casting down gradually |

I bought one of those re-production IT manuals for a MT from the dealer. Had more info on Bs & As than vertical engines. |

I'm not speaking of IT manuals but, rather of better reprints of the original manuals than Deere is willing to provide.
I am in no way and advocate for IT manuals. |

The IT makes a fine wrapper to keep grease off the JD service manual. Or to prop doors or windows open.
The IT manual has just enough info to get some folk into trouble. |

I can't find a JD service manual for 70 gas. To my knowledge, none were printed. |

I doubt if anybody intended to blow you off.
There are some mooches that want all the info free and easy, won't purchase a service manual. Don't have a whole lot of time for them.
The 60 service manual will be sufficient. |
