I got to wondering if I could be having a vacume leak at the heads. The intake/exaust gaskets have a square opening and I thought it looked like the round intake manifold openings would seal off. Now that I think about it I am thinking there might be 3 round gaskets made of the gasket paper in the set. Could that be the place for them? If so I should have known better!!!. Also I wired a plasti bag over the air cleaner today with the pre cleaner renmoved and it sucked down on the bag. I also took one of the plugs out of the intake manifold and when priming gas was going up into the manifold. But I do notics I cannot smell ether or lp on the plugs. I also pulled the front off the reg and the valve releases gas freely. I am thinking I ether have no fuel getting to the cyls or very bad timing or both.....

I don't remember all the details but some years back I hauled a neighbors tractor to the mechanic for him and it turned out all that was wrong with it was a screw in the points(???) was too long and grounding out somehow so it wasn't gettig spark. Easy way to check your spark maybe an inductive timing light see if it works all the time under actual conditions. Unless you ruled out spark already. You have said you found TDC by valve position seems like you could only be 180 off unless cam timing is off. I would check all the simple things first. I know you did already just triing to think of something that will help.

Take the air cleaner hose off and with some gasoline in a small oil can squirt some into the carb. while turning it over. Should fire if ignition and timing are close.

I appriciate all input I am to the point of using my imagination... I have pretty well ruled out spart but I will check to make sure all plugs are getting fire. I meshed the cam and crank gear according to the 1 mark on both gears just as it is pictured in the manual. But I am sure wondering if I got it wrong. One of the gears also has a 2 stamped in it I have wondered what that is for????

Yea I will try that. Odd how it will fire on ether once pretty good, then again sort of and then not at all. Then later it will do the same thing. Very odd and getting on my nerves I am about to the giving up point and having the mechanic come out.
