Last year bot a d17 series I. Hyd worked, but wouldn"t lift a
snap couple plow Added a two way valve with a shutoff and it
worked fine with a wheel disc Put gauge on line, it built slowly
to 1600#. Replaced pump with a used one the owner swore
worked 100% had used it with 3 pt bushog. After
replacement, the pressure hit 2500# 1 time but woudnt repeat
Cycled a few time. now with the shut off valve open, the arms
will lift 200# ( me) chattering all the while, and will drop. With
the shut off closed, will lift me and chattering and will stick at
top. If I open valve to drop an inch or so then close it will
continue to drop Reads almost nothing on gauge Thoughts?..

Since all oil goes through the lift arm cylinder, you might check for bad cylinder or the hose going to the cylinder might be bad.

Pump on that tractor should be High pressure system, 3500 PSI, 4GPM. Likely a pump problem, or cams that run the pump are worn away.
