Are the "engine blocks" for a gas and diesel the same?

Block I think is the same but that"s probably about it. Dave P will know.

I am sure the pistons will be different. Block should be the same.

Hi, thanks for your optimism!!!!! I'm afraid I don't know for sure. As Sam says, the pistons will probably be different but as far as I am aware the blocks will be the same.

Here's pics of my gas version. You'll have to compare this to pics of a diesel.
'Cast at the foundary exactly the same' probably. Ready to convert from one fuel to the other... not that fast and easy I'll bet...

Block, crank,rods are the same, as others have stated.
