Jim, Got started on the wiring today and didn't get it completed yet, ran out of time, but when I was working on it my neighbor came over to visit. I was showing him the wiring diagram that you sent me and he asked me how is the battery getting charged within this circuit, he supposedly knows a little about elec. Anyway I said I'm not sure, but I will try to find out. I'm not questioning it myself, but I guess he was. Thanks Larry

The wire from the stud on the back of the ALT. (red 10ga.)goes directly to the amp meter. The amp meter is a shunt device. (it has a heavy conductor inside with a known very small resistance. This resistance has the meter connected across the terminals. Thus it passed plenty of amps) The 10ga. wire then goes to the starter motor solenoid, where it connects to the battery cable from the + battery post. From there it goes to the battery, charging it. The - battery cable is grounded, as is the alternator, thus completing the charging circuit. Jim

I also noticed when I was replacing the wiring there was a jumper wire going from one end of the resistor to the other end of the resistor on the tractor. I guess someone decided to bypass it for some reason. Larry Ps, I'll have to get my wife to bake all you guys some brownies for all the help

I just noticed this post. Very clear! One Question. Does the wire from the Alt Stud connect to the + or _ on the meter?

There is no standard in the industy as to which is which. I have seen them marked with the - terminal grounded when it has positive ground. It is usually an experiment with a new meter, but a flip if the polarity is changed and the meter was working correctly. Using a headlight and a couple of jumpers and a battery will be easy enough to assure it is connected so it charges going to the right. Jim
