The real Vikings were those 8th to 12th century Norsemen from what is now Sweden, Norway and Denmark. They were raiders, traders, marauders. They cruised around in their long boats and attacked the Atlantic coastal areas of Europe.
They conquered and then settled much of England and what is now Normandy in northern France.
Some of them went as far as to go through the straights of Gibralter and into the Mediteranian Sea. Others made their way into what is now Russia. Rus was the name for for Swede.
Still others sailed the Atlantic and made Iceland and Greenland their homes.
The conguered peoples, especially in England were subject to a harsh but fair set of laws called the Danelaw and were forced to pay tribute called Danegeld (dane gold).
A couple of their greatest kings were Knute the
Great and Harold Bluetooth.
Some of the last of the pre
Christian Europeans, their main gods were Woden, Thor and Freya from which we get Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Excuse me if I don't get all the facts exactly right as I'm banging this out from memory.
I really don't care about a bunch of silly, modern teams and games. But I do like learning about the Vikings.

Yep that was before they learned the policies of modern government. You can kill and rob a man only once, but you can cheat him time and again! Smile

A few very late 1950's chevy pickups had a "Viking" badge on the side of the hood.

I love learning about my Norwegian / Viking heritage. They were some awsome sailors and pretty fearless to set off in those ships. The 13th Warrior and Kurt Douglas in "The Vikings " are couple great flicks .

So here's the deal. Why did we see a post protesting non tractor related threads only to find a post about flippin' Vikings?

I'm all for topics unrelated to specifically tractors, I just want to know why a regular whiner isn't whining about HIS OWN POST.

just a thought, but what would happen if tractor tales was on top and tractor talk was down where Tales is now ,maybe since it is a little harder to get at it would have more just tractor posts that some seem to want,I like both tractor talk and tractor tales,I just wonder if it would help, what do you think?

LOL.
I think though that squash came from the Americas and were not indigenous to Europe.
So about the only way the Vikings could have had them is if you believe the Kensington Rune Stone is real and maybe some of those poor, hagard Vinelanders brought a few seeds back with them.
Not that any self respecting Viking would...
