I'm in the market for a pto powered generator. I don't know anything about these. I know I want about a 15kw with 3point hook up. What brands do you guys recommend and what should I expect to spend. I live in mid Michigan and would like to drive to get one. I get nervous about buying something sight unseen for that much money online. |

I have an older Winpower 25/15 unit. I paid $1500 for it years ago used from a dealer. I wouldn't mind having a bigger one.
Here, as there, I imagine there are frequently farms upsizing, or selling out, where you could get one. |

If you're looking for a quality unit locate your nearest Katolight dealer. We've had a Katolight here on the farm since 1969 and it's been used many times. It's very reliable. |

I saw an ad in my Mi. farm news. Martin Electric Carson City. 989 584 3850 They said PTO generator repair and sales.
I was looking on line today too. My power was out for about 20 hours yesterday. I kept things going with a 2000 watt and a 4000 watt potible. I had to dump the gas out of them and install fresh gas to get them running. I was thinking it would be alot easier to just hook one up to a tractor. A diesel tractor would probably burn less fuel than them small gas portable jobs I got. Although its the first time in a long time I had a problem with power outage. |

I"ve had a WinPower 25/45 kw since new in 1977. Always works. KatoLite also has an excellent rep. Would buy either one. I think Onan has a good rep, but I"d stay away from Pincor- neighbor had a new one, power out, didn"t work. Others here had poor impression of Pincor as well. |

I too recommend one on a cart, and buy one older than 1985, all the new electronic BS on the newer ones create many problems. I have a kil-a-watt that I plug into the 110v plug on my generator, and then adjust rpm's to 60hz. Plug it into the cutoff outlet and let it run until I see the neighbors yardlight turn back on. |

I have a 25KW Winpower (?) that's probably near 30 years old, 0 problems. But I'm not sure they're around any more. Use that one at my parents' place. We needed a bigger one here, and bought a Katolite (Katolight?) 40KW. Works well, no problems in almost 14 years.
I'd also suggest a trailer-mounted. |

Do not be afraid of a Pincor unit, have one bought new in 1975 used many hours and the only part replaced was a gauge. |
