Wheel spacers.

I got a 89 GMC 1 ton single rear wheel pickup. It has the Dana 60 rear end in it. I would like to put 2002 GMC aluminum rims on it. I have had them on there already but the rims hit the fins on the drums and do not allow it to tighten right. I tried cheap 1/4 inch spacers and that worked but I didn't think I had enough turns on the lug nuts. I was also worried that the cheap spacer might corrode or break. Has anyone used wheel adaptors or spacers on their tow vehicle? I was wondering how they hold up to heavy towing. Any comments welcome. Thanks.

I would never use spacers in a situation like that. Find some different wheels. That's a disaster waiting to happen. Sorry.

i agree with caseyc, had a old p/u, even though 1/2 ton, going down street, wheel seperated from spacer, lucky, the drum dropped down on wheel, ddidn't loose control. came to slow stop,,, depending on the size of your rim size, just go another rim size larger, if not too costly,,

I'd either find other wheels or swap in a new rear end, they aren't worth much, hardest part might be the brake booster matching the newer disc brakes.

GM wheels are hub-centric which means the wheels are aligned by the hub of the drum. A cheap spacer will not work. You will need an expensive spacer that retains the hub pilot so the wheels will still be aligned.

I have similar spacers(click below) on my 03 Suburban with big tires and 6" lift and they work great.They bolt on your existing hub and the wheel gets bolted to the new spacer so you don't get short on threads.
