Will a jd 217 engine fit in a 55 combine that had a 303 engine without major modification? My 303 lost compression, broken rings in two cylinders, and I can get a good 217 fairly reasonable. |

Some of the drive components are different, I think. Plus you will hate that 217 after having a 303. They are noticeably lower in horse power. A good 303 should not be that hard to find and the price of them around here is not that high. You can buy a complete combine worth the money here.
Where are you located??? I may know someone close to you that may have a motor. |

JD,Ken is close to me at Grand Junction,Co.Those old combines are pretty scarse here.Most have been scrapped.Even a 4400/6600 is too old for most folks here.I found a 217 for him in a hilo at a local scrapyard. |

Steve, if there are any 4400 or 6600's there why not put in a 329 diesel? Or a 303/329 gas from an earlier 6600? Mike |
