Got a Onan 'performer 24' in skid loader w/Nikki carb. Was loading up on gas bad. Installed many dollars{$100] in parts in carb. and now it wants to surge at all speeds except wide open. It does have good working power. There are no adjustments on this carb. Any ideas? Thanks |

My 16hp did the same thing but the biggest thing I found was one of the adjusting screw hole was wore and it was getting too much air. I bought another carb on ebay and took the best of the two and built one. Runs smooth now. You may be getting too much air somewhere. Good luck |

Onan intake manifolds are 2 piece aluminum held together with rivets and RTV. My 318 John Deere was surging badly, I pulled the intake, JB welded it together and cured the problem. Onan carbs and intakes are really fussy about the amount of air so if any air leaks they will run poorly |

To check if you have an air leak, I usually get the engine running and take a little propane canister with the valve open around the carburetor. If the engine speeds up, you have an air leak somewhere.

Make sure this welch plug is not missing. If my memory serves me correct it would surge at all speeds if it were missing.
