I have an early 1941 Oliver 60 I'm
rebuilding, and when I took the
coolant neck off I noticed there
was no thermostat inside. I
figured the previous owner took it
out, like many do thinking it will
improve cooling, rather than
fixing the real problem.
I found when after getting a new
t-stat that there is no "seat" to
put the new one into. The water
neck mates to the head with no
cutout to fit the lip of the t-stat.
I have noticed the later water
necks are shaped different. What
am I missing?
Also, I need a maintainance
manual for a 60. Are they out
there somewhere? I don't like the
"I.T." manuals.
Corey

My 60 doesn't use a thermostate.

Manuals. I just received a parts manual and service manual I ordered for My 60 RC from this YT website. They are reprints of the Oliver manuals and are very good. Good color and detailed instructions. Only $30 bucks each.

Of this I cannot be totally sure, but pretty confident of it. My 1948 90 came to the UK without a stat.

I still have an original water manifold and am sure I can remember it being changed out early in it's life. Seven years on from your '41 60, so that fairly well indicates they were not fitting stats as standard until after the WWII period?

Not sure if this is factual or not but I believe a lot of the early 60's used a curtain that rolled up/down to control temperature in lieu of thermostat. Somewhere along the line thermostats were added and curtains were discontinued. Maybe someone better informed has dates/years?

My 60 originally had a bellows type thermostat in it. The replacement thermostat is a common 350 Chevy with a brass seat that the pellet side sits on and a thick rubber ring to seal the outlet side to the neck.
