|
|
Speaking of wish list.....Talked with the owner of this 870 last summer, he said he had owned it since the 80's. Said the hours were low, like around 3000, but looks to have a newer hyd. pump and to have been repainted at some point. They quit using it when the ps started to slip. The owner didn't seem to interested in airing up the tires or seeing if the engine turned over. lol. In past 870 experiences sitting 870's mean bad engine balencers. The guy wants the tractor to go to someone that is going to fix it. I would like a late 870. Was the filter put on the back of the cab like this in 1974? What do you guys think?

The wheel centers say early to me. Our late 73 has solid ones. It would be a very interesting tractor to me, but I have a good complete 7/870 8speed rear end here. |

Hi Eric, the filters are back there on all white ones unless a early one was painted white. Even the last year or two of the sunset ones had that filter set up. Those engine balancers are the big WHAT IF when we think about getting a nonrunner. You probably have several good ones sitting on the shelf for future projects. I'll be calling when in need of one, Rod. |

I wonder what the deal was with those wheel centers , I have seen both styles on early and late ones. Rod. |

Good to know. I have seen the open ones broken in serious sidehill country. |

The one I know of were mounted plows turning hard on a sidehill headland. That 2000# hammer hanging on the 3 point has a considerable amount of energy. Same for top link mounts... |

that sounds very reasonable, mine broke right at the clamp area up to the spoke, they PO used it for pulling a balewagon 95% of its life |

my centers are solid and interchangeable with my early 1070 with 23x 30 tires and 68 930 with 34 inch wheels ,, guess i am lucky ,, not suere why case chose to make solid wheels and spoked wheels ,, maybe someone can research that,,as for breaking ,, i can only bet that sumetin was loose somewhere that caused the break ,, but thats just my thinkin |

Eric, I am glad you got together with Bob. He is a good guy. If you didn't already notice, that tractor has the plastic box on the right side of the dash for the operators manual I was told that this was only available on the last year the 870's were built. Again I am glad she went to a good home, I would have loved to have it when he offered it to me, but the lack of skill and ambition overruled the want. Dale |

Hi Dale, No I haven't bought it yet. If it's a 74 I want it regardless of the condition. Need to get the serial number. I text his grandson this morning. Maybe he got rid of it? |

Eric,
I hope you can get that diamond in the rough home and give her another chance at life. Looks like she was pulled out of the rhubarb (weeds) recently for the pictures. Good luck. I would love one like like next to my 1070 some day.

to be honest it looks like a real pile, there's some nice original 870's that wouldn't be a money pit like that one is going to be, I wouldn't believe the 3000hr thing for a second |
