Im in the process of purchasing a very beat up U302 propane tractor. It is missing a serial tag and I am having a hard time placing a model year to it. This tractor has "white" on the grill instead of "mm".

Im guessing its a 1969 or maybe 1970. However aside from the grill emblem, I am not sure of any differences from 1966-1969.

Are there any options or features that would set it apart from the earlier U-302 super?

Im trying to be fair in this purchase, and would offer more if it were one of the last ones made.

Thanks for any pointers, Art

Unless its different from 670's etc, it will have the plain flat top fenders, will have plain black face gauges rather than the nice electroluminescent white face gauges that glow green at night. Probably more differences. Dont think the 302's ever went to closed center hyd. They should have an external steering cylinder with a yoke underneath rather than the big cast steering unit underneath the radiator

I think the fenders on the later ones were different as the headlights being kind of "recessed" like the Olivers, but as far as 1969 or 1970 for the fenders Im not sure. The seat under ride was different also on the later ones. Im sure someone on here will know more. Ive always liked the U302s as they seem like a decent HP tractor that is handy.

Does it have an engine tag? If so, post it here and maybe we can come up with a year. Since you say the tractor is beat up, it might not make much difference.

The external steering cylinder is the key here. The seat could be the same. The fenders will also be like the later 670's and 900, recessed lights with a true flat top fender.

Thanks for the input gentlemen. I will be driving over again this weekend to load it up. I think it is an older U302 with a newer grill. It has the white faced gauges, old style fenders, and old style steering cylinder.

It definately has a 2 speed T/A and older style hydraulic levers. I know some of the later 670s had a console style hydraulic lever system and 3 speed T/A/...im not sure if this was true on U 302s as well?

When I can get it power washed I will hopefully be able to read the engine tag and know for sure.

It has been sitting in a corn crib for 10 years where the owners also keep their pet guineas and chickens. Needless to say it is covered in a grease, s*it, and feather compound that hardly scrapes off with a pocket knife.

Im glad I am giving it a home all the same. They are a nice sized tractor for chore work.

Thanks again, Art

If it has Dyna Brown paint on the chassis, those were 1966 models, if it is all energy yellow, those were 1967 on up. I think the seat under ride was changed in 1967 or 68 as well, similiar to the M670 Super seats. If possible, please post a picture of it when you can...dirty or not.. Smile

AMC-68,
Of the 70+ Molines we have our 1966 U-302 Super is the most used tractor around our place. Really good sized tractor for most chores. The U-302 was never equipped with a 3spd. Only the M670 and up sizes ever came with a 3spd.

Good luck with it!

I"ve owned a U-302 Super since it was almost new (120 Hrs). It is a 1969. They only made 25 LP U-302"s in 1969 and 25 more in 1970. The only external change I know of on the late 302 Super"s is that they have an extra lever next to the 3-point lever that will control how low the 3-point arms go. It was handy when I was using a front mtd. cultivator to control the depth of the rear sweeps (behind the tires) on the cultivator. I saw a 2 page supplement at the dealer"s that listed changes on the late Super"s once but don"t recall all of them.

This is my 1970 302 super LP. In 70 they painted the 25 tractors with the white band and wheels and WHITE across the front. Mine is all original except previous owner had repainted the wheels and white band. This is really a nice tractor to operate!

BUY IT if you can!!!!!!! Mine was built right in the middle!
