SC Governor Removal

Is it possible to remove the Governor on a Super C without removing the radiator? It looks like if I remove the grill and the fan shroud it may clear but I'm not sure.Also are the C and Super C Governors interchangeable Thanks

I am not sure but I believe it can be done if it is wiggled just right. Others need to chime in before you commit to the fact. Did it run!?? Jim

I found the "real" problem. Actually there are/were two issues. First of all the on/off switch works about half the time. I'm thinking the sudden shutdowns are caused by that. I mean it shuts off just like you pushed the switch in.But just in case I had replaced the points and condenser. Now the reason why it would not start , dumb me allowed the connector on the condenser to make contact with the housing thus I had a short so no fire from the coil.I have a new switch on order.Now my problem is back to throttle control. I think I should pull the Governor and rebuild all the internal linkage-it really doesn't operate smoothly at all. Bud

If it has about 1/2 of the throttle travel doing nothing, it is about normal. Adjusting the length of the rods to the governor such that at full lever travel, the governor lever is all the way is about all that can be adjusted. If it is jerky of pulses in RPM, and carb adjust won't fix it, then governor rebuild is a good idea. I am glad the unit actually runs!!!!. Jim

Actually I'm having a problem in getting it to idle down.With the throttle set as low as possible the tractor will race.When I walk around and pull the carb rod forward it will settle down a bit but still runs too fast.I will work on those rods before blasting into the Governor since I've already been there and done that. Again I really appreciate your help.I feel like I'm slowly learning a lot.Bud

Only thing helpful in removing is loosen the fan down for a little more room to remove the gov. Before you remove the gov set the linkage going to the carb. With engine off remove the pin on the gov arm going to the carb. Now open the throttle pin should go back in holding the carb fully open. Adjust the clevis so it does. Be careful turning the clevis so you dont bend the carb lever. Mite need to secure the rod with a vicegrip to avoid bending carb lever. Throttle response should be ok IF the input lever on the gov doesent have too much wobble. That can be fixed by re-bushing that lever. In that case the gov housing will need to be removed. I have fixed a bunch of them by line boring to 5/8 and installing a 1/2x5/8 brass bushing. If you do need to remove the gov check the thrust bearing it could be bad also. Do not remove the gear as it times the Mag/Dist there is no need to remove it.

I will give it a try. My main problem is when I set the throttle down as low as possible and start the engine it will race. When I grab the carb rod and push it forward as much as possible it slows down but not to what I would consider a slow idle. I have a few things to try before tearing the Governor down.Bud
