First off I have the shop manual, but wiring diagram is a bit smallish.
Did alot of work to the 'Ol girl and took pics during disassembly, but apparently not enough. Even went so far as to label the wires. Problem is the person writing the labels can't even read what was written.
I had the Gauge cluster rebuilt be Roger Hornbaker. My problem is that with the key on the Amp gauge shows discharge. With the engine running, I'm still showing discharge. Replaced generator with one wire Alt. from Brillman that self excites at low rpm. wire from Alt. shows 14+ volts when checked with a volt meter.
I have the power coming from the battery to the top pole on amp gauge. The bottom pole supplies power to Ign. switch direct and lights thru the fuse holder. Power to fuel gage is also off the bottom pole.
Which pole should the Alt. wire be attached too? I want to say the top based on pics and the need to supply power / charge the battery. Rodger did mark the +/- poles as such but right noe I don't remember which is which.
Tractor starts and runs fine, Head and Dash lights work, Gauges work. Just the Amp gauge doesn't change position -5 ish amps from zero once the key is turned to on.
To my way of thinking if the amp gauge was wired backwards, as soon as the tractor started it would read negative 30 plus amps, but it doesn't move from where it goes when the key is turned on. - 5ish or so.
Should I wire the Alt. directly to the battery side of the starter solinoid?

You have the ammeter hook up backward, switch the two wires around, it actually is charging. This happened to me on the positive ground 630.

Wire from alternator and supply feeds to switches and gauges all go to one side of ammeter. Other side of ammeter goes to battery.
Ammeter tells you if battery current is going into the battery (charge) or coming out of battery (discharge).
Move your alternator wire to the bottom pole of ammeter. Battery charge current must go through the alternator for it to indicate.

Typo...should read
Battery charge current must go through the AMMETER for it to indicate.

Update. Changed the wire to the bottom pole. No change in operation of Ammeter. Did some more looking at the back side of the meter, and the top pole is marked - minus. So the way it's wired now, the wire from battery is to the top pole. Wire to starter switch, light switch and fuel gauge. Alt wire is unhooked at this time. With engine running, alt. wire is putting out 15+ volts as checked with a voltmeter.
