I have an Allis Chalmers D17 and the powersteering does not work. The fluid is up and I have no idea where to go next. Any pointers/ tips would be appreciated. Thanks |

You don't say what series you have which makes any answer a guess. When I bought my 1960 Series I, the power steering did not work. The problem was that the coupling that connected the generator shaft to the power steering pump was completely gone. I built a new coupling and checked out the steering pump. After I assembled it, it worked OK. It is more power assist than full power as some John Deere and Farmalls have. That repair was done in 1995 and it is still working in 2013, 18 years later. I think the pump for some later model D17's might be driven differently. |
