MF 50 Diesel with 3 Cylinder Perkins Diesel. The injection pump is very noisy. Tractor starts and runs good with good power. Is this normal? Or do I have trouble coming my way? Thanks, Jim. |

3 cyl pumps are noisy to begin with, some are really loud on the test stand. |

You can hear this noise in the pump over the engine running?
This surprises me unless it has some fancy type muffler/spark arrestor that's super quiet.
Are you sure that the noise is coming from the injector pump, and not some other part of the engine?
The timing gear train can be quite noisy if the engine has a lot of hours. I've seen the idler gears in these engines with substantial wear cause quite a ruckus. Even a worn oil pump idler will "bellow" over the top of a noisy engine.
Just a thought,
Evan. |

Thanks for the replies. I guess the noise could be coming from the gear train, but it sounds localized to the pump. Just have the stock exhaust system, horizontal.
The tach works and shows 5200 hrs. Can never be sure this is the original tach.
Still have to replace fan belt and check idler and water pump for wear. Thanks, JIm. |
