Going to look at this tomorrow. Guys says it got alot of blow by and it will not crank over now he says one of the pistons must have broke. Seems cheap enough at this point. I know it is a pig in the poke. Any thoughts?

For me the shipping is not a problem. It is not far and I have a 20K gooseneck to haul it. As far as scrap at 1850 price it is at now that is more then it would bring at the scrap yard. Atleast I think so

Doesn't seem too bad. Not sure what it would cost to rebuild the motor. What would it be worth in running condition. I don't think they go for tons of money.

I would figure the worst is wrong with it engine, tranny and fuel pump are shot..The tires aren't bad worth a $1000 and whatever you think its worth in scrap.I would think of your highest price you are willing to pay.I'm thinking it will fetch $3500? good luck sir..

Guy said he pulled his round baler with it last summer. Trans, TA, hydraulics are good. Of course he could just be telling me that. Seems to be an honest guy, told me no problem to come look at it.

I would go on gut feelings..I have not had good luck on so called EZ fixes..You could run an ad in the classified:Looking for a running 1066 and see what kind of prices people are selling them for.that would eliminate the unknown...ps.Tractorhouse is generally 50% higher than what they are worth that is why they are on there forever..

From what I have seen, that tractor in running condition would be anywhere from 7500-12000 around here. (Minnesota) Engine overhaul costs how much now? What about a used engine if you could find one ...

If it was anywhere near me id already have it, Those rear cast centers and rims are almost worth what hes asking. Id say thats a very good buy. Either way you could easly get your money back out of it if it didn't work out for you. Just my 2 cents

Sounds like it might have scored a piston or pistons. I would crack the oil plug and see if you get any water/antifreeze out of it. If the oil looks good the crank might be okay. Even without having to pull the crank, you are looking at liners, pistons, rod and main bearings, have the head and valves checked and done, oil pump, have injectors and pump checked out, etc.. Depending on how much work you can do yourself you could end up with $3000 to $4000 in that motor real quick. Those tires don"t look like 38" rubber to me but maybe they are. Witht he cab in the shape it is I would want to find a set of fenders for it and lose the cab so there is another $300 to $500. It is over $2000 now and I guess my thinking is I would have a hard time making a decent tractor out of it without being upside down in it when done. If you could find a good running drop in engine for a couple grand you might be okay but there are a lot of ifs when buying something like this. I would steer clear of it.

Sounds like a sleeve cavitated. Exact symptoms my 1066 had when a sleeve let go. The 414 engine in these tractors are easy to overhaul and the parts are reasonable for them.

Also plenty of junk trucks out there with good 400-series engines for a quick and easy transplant...
