The dentist was uneventful. After a 'numding',the tooth came out easily. The 'tool' he used looked like a mini tireiron! He just kind of pried it out, took less than 2 min.Was in the office about 45 min.The novocain wore off in a bout 6 hrs, then it started to hurt. The cost was $138.00.

I think I chose the wrong occupation! The price seems to be in line with the charge for extractions around here. Heck, around here dentists are so independent they only work four days a week! I remember one time I had a tooth pulled and on the way home decided that I needed something to drink. Got back in the car and turned the bottle up not thinking that my mouth was still numb. Proceeded to pour Pepsi all over myself AND the car seat! Never did that again though.

I know I chose the wrong profession. We have a dentist here that had over one million dollars embezzelled from him in nine years. He never missed it until a new accountant discovered it.

That's about one-half of what I paid for having one tooth extracted about 5 years ago. Hal

Glad all went well for you. I had 3 pulled last year. 2 were wisdom teeth and another cracked one. 1 hour later and a $1000.00 later I was done. Glad the pain was gone though. I fought it for a few weeks, because I don't like dentists either.

Glad to hear all turned out well in more ways than one and less eventful or scary than expected.

As a dentist, all I've got to say is:
My goal this year is to make as much as people THINK I made last year.
Seriously, many years of expensive schooling (9 years after high school), about $1 million initial investment in office/equipment, insurance, utilities, salaries, go on and on...
When I was in private practice, I handled a lot of $ but a whole lot of folks had to get paid before I got my share.
A lot like it was when we were farming.
If you have a good dentist, it's worth what they charge, a bad one is worse than none at all.(and a lot of times the bad ones are the ones charging the most)

Yup. We sometimes forget how expensive it is to get through school and set up a practice. Costs silos (to keep it in a farming theme) full of money.

I just had an upper wisdom tooth pulled. Was growing a little sideways, dentist had quite a time getting a grip on it. Ended up getting it out after 10 minutes or so of this and that. Had quite a headache that day and a little bleeding for a couple. X-rays and removal $109....
