This is the train I caught yesterday. I thought you guys might find this interesting. We get one train like this each week going east. They come from the CIH plant at Grand Island, NE and go east for export. Usually about 30 combines per train. Sometimes there are a few yellow New Hollands mixed in, but this one is all red.

I don't care what brand it is, I love to see farm equipment on trains. Probably has something to do with the fact that farm equipment and trains are my two greatest interests.

Just one of those machines is impressive. A trainload leaves me speechless.

I wonder who in Romania has enough money to buy one of those? Looks like they must have run out of silver wheels.

That"s wonderful, the way it supposed to be, going world-wide from the middle of the USA.

Brings back memories of when I unloaded tractors & equipment off of and out of train cars backs in the 60's & 70's. It's exhilarating to say the least to drive a combine or self propelled windrower off the side of railroad car onto a dock utilizing portable dock plates the first time.

Zaloudek in kremlin, Ok used to bring in the L's
and LA's by the train load. Never got to see it in person but it always made the front page of the Enid news paper. A site to see. Can remember going there with dad and seeing what looked to a kid like "miles" of shiney new tractors in a row. Always loved it when the guy wold come out from behind the counter and put me on the peddle pusher tractor. Seems like it was a vac but that was a long time ago.
We were North of there near a little place called Sand Creek, Oklahoma.

BTDT also. Even more interesting when the roof over the dock area was too low for a SP combine with cab. We had to drive Case 6-960s off the other side of car and onto a tilt bed truck to get them off.

Thats a lot of money rolling on that train.

The upside is the assembly plant in NE making them. The downside, the global competition that those machines create back against the US. BUT... the ecomony is global, so we best adjust or be consumed.

Thats a lotta red! Around here we will see them loaded with green coming out of Deere's Harvester Works in East Moline, IL. I usually don't see whole trains though, mostly just a dozen cars with combines, rest of the train is other freight. Nice Pics!

I think it's just the 8230 and 9230 models that are transpoted with temporary wheels due to the fact that they have a wider stance. The wheels they normally come with would be too wide to fit on a flatcar. They take the wheels completely off when hauled on a lowboy.

I know what you mean David. I grew up on the farm with Dad and both of my grandfathers working the land. Dad also worked for the C&NW as a conductor, so I always had an interest in both industries.

About the time I was getting out of high school, I realized that farming was probably not going to be in the cards. My dad was barely making it work at that time, so I went to work for the railroad. It's been good steady work, and I still enjoy it after 20 years, so I guess I took the right path.
