Just a question about oil. I'm considering using Rotella 15-40 wt oil in my antique 2 cylinder tractors. I've got about 11 vehicles and 6 tractors many of which use Rotella 10w40. Would simplify things if I could use Rotella in my two cylinder tractors. Any recommendations or reports from people who have already switched?

Info only: Had the carb from my JD 630 rebuilt by Poppin Johnny and am very happy with Mike's work and turn around time. Started right up after bolting it in place. Probably will send my JD 3020 gas carb to Roberts to get the conversion to help with plug fouling and lessen the smoke at low rpm.

The oil is light years ahead of what was used in its time....

I run John Deere oil in almost everything I own. Diesel oil in an old tractor works very well. Diesel oil gets an engine clean and keeps it that way. Sludge is a thing of the past. Get the crud out of the engine and keep it out. Mike

Wow..glad I asked as that is a 100 percent positive response. Thanks and I'll be switching tomorrow. I have been looking at Sam's for those 55 gallons drums but my store is not carrying it in stock. I'll go ask the manager to see if she can order it.

I run Rot. 15w-40 in everything but my new tractor which I run their 5w-40 full syn. I ran it in my 800 cu. in. Cummins OTR truck. No additives, just oil. Worked fine for me. I'd buy it in the 55 gallon drums too. My big cam took 11 gallons per change and i had to change it about every month due to mileage.

Delo, Rot, Exxon XD3, etc. All have the starburst "compression" rating. Not being negative, but what difference does the number of cylinders make?

Been using it in all mine for so many years I can't remember how long! Been using it since late 70's, early 80's or so.

Only exception is the hand start A that sometimes gets used in the winter. Though I don't often use it when it's this cold (the cab is nice and roomy but a bit drafty & chilly) that 15-40 is mighty stiff at 0 and lower! Makes a feller groan a bit to roll him over! In that cold weather he gets blue jug Wal-Mart 10-30 until spring!

I use it in my restored Austin Healey 3000 because of its high zinc content. It originally called for 20w50 in 1960.
