I have a 4 Star diesel that local Ag students are interested in restoring. I got it years ago from a guy who had started to overhaul it but lost interest so it is kind of in pieces. The sheet metal is excellent "EXCEPT", there is a hole cut in the right panel forward of the exhaust hole, about the same size. I was curious if anyone knew why this was cut out at that location and whether it could be fixed or would I have to just find another panel?? Your comments would be greatly appreciated. thank you

The second hole likely aligns with the air cleaner allowing the addition of an air stack and pre-cleaner. A good sheet metal repair person should be able to weld in a patch.

Those ag. students are never going to learn to patch sheet metal holes any younger! Armand

Hmm, I would let the ag students experement on a Farmall tractor and do the 4 star diesel up right. Very rare tractor.

That's what I'd do or a John Deere. Make that 4 star look really pretty and have someone who's good restore it.

Thank you all for the comments. After considering them, I contacted a company that specializes in sheet metal restoration in our area. They advised they could repair it ready for paint for around $200.00. I think that's probably fair enough. The tractor is a wide front with serial number 18200021 which, I assume, makes it a 1960 model and the 21st 4Star Diesel made. After reading some other posts, I was hoping that it was a super because it has the chrome strip on top with the chrome V, but as I read further, it appears that the chrome and V were common to all 4 Stars. Since I bought it in pieces, I sure hope I have them all. Thanks again for your comments.

I would think the sheetmetal is the least of your problems. 206D motors are very hard to find parts for. Been there done that!

Can you post a picture of it? I believe the Supers had the Tach and Speedometer, and the fenders were crown fenders like the M5s. Still is a nice rare tractor, Super or not....

Alan,

I will try and get a picture of it and post it. That is something I need to learn how to do anyway.

If you look just below "Preview your Reply" button there is an "Upload photo" button..if you click on that, browse your computer for the photo, usually in "jpeg" format, select it and then select upload and dont forget to click continue after the photo appears, then click the preview your reply button...and it should appear...

OK, here are a few pics I hope. It has been under a tarp since I've owned it and I covered the engine with foil and a storage container as the tarp started getting holes in it after a few years. It does have the tach/speedometer but doesn't have the M5 fenders. Tag just says 4 Star. I wonder if supers said 4 Star Super?

Being a 1960 does it have the American Bosch pump or the Roosa Master. Roosa is on front Bosch on side.
