Paint Color for TO-20 Fuel Tank?

What"s the "correct" paint color for the fuel tank on a TO-20?

The FENA chart shows that it"s the same as the sheet metal color, but my tank doesn"t look like it was ever painted - looks more like galvanized metal.

It has a little surface rust on the outside, so I"m planning to paint it while I have it off, doing some other work.

Bill, is your tank painted gray, like the rest of the sheet metal on the tractor? (Well, how the sheet metal is supposed to be, anyway!)

If it looks like it never was painted, perhaps it is a replacement tank and no one bothered to paint it.

That"s probably what happened.

It does have some kind of dark coating on it - actually darker than galvanized metal, but it"s not paint.

Maybe something that was done at a radiator/fuel tank repair shop?

I may try to find out if paint will stick to it.

being now one will see it that often, factory never wanted to use other color than gray,,lol,,my to-20 is also gray, same as rest of tractor,,original paint, still in decent shape..

Mine must be a replacement then, and/or it was repainted/recoated with some flat blackish-gray paint/coating of some kind.
