I have always thought that Farmall Hs came from the factory with
10" rims standard. I also have always thought that the
measurement of rim width was taken on the inside, not the
outside. My latest H parts tractor has a rim that I just got the
tire off that measures 10" on the inside and 11" on the outside.
The other rim on that tractor still has the tire on it but it is 10"
on the outside and presumably therefore 9" on the inside. This
is the same as the H rims that are currently on my 300. Are
these in fact 9" rims and if so are they the original size, or have I
been wrong about how to measure rim width? I am confused.
Any information will be much appreciated.
Zach

When you measure the outside its always an inch narrower on the inside. Sort of hard to measure the inside when there is a tire mounted so ya just measure the outside minus an inch. There were different rim sizes on that tractor when new so someone must have changed one of them.

Inside width. Common for 9 inch rims to be on a H. especially the earlier it is. But there was size options until the end of production. 38 inch width sizes in 1942 was 8, 9 and 10.

Noticed at the start of 1947 8,9 and 10 was the 38 inch sizes listed. By 1949 11 inch was also listed.
Be interesting to know what the standard rim and tire equipment for different years would be if a specific size was not put on a tractor order.
Like you I also have a 50 model H that was equiped with 10 inch when I got it. Also a SH with 10 inch.

It took a while for IH and probably other mfgs to come up with the "correct" matching of tires to rims. Many H/SH tractors were sold with 11(12.4) tires on 10 inch rims. The best fit now marked on tires is 12.4(11 tread width) on 11 inch rims. 1 inch narrower rim is still ok but not a perfect fit.

I wish it had 11" on it, I plan to upgrade 10 13.6 on new tires.

Thank you, that is good to know. I didn't realize there were so many options.

Zach if you notice I said in 38 inch size. There was also other size diameter options also.
First rubber tire rims for a H or M was 36 inch.
Also the 10 X 38 size was on some early 300 tractors. Some of those 10 inch had the double drop instead of a single drop. Then some 300 used the double bevel 10 inch.

I had heard of the 36" tires and that they were on split rims or something like that. I had also heard that the early 300 used the drop center rims and 6 spoke wheels, so that made me think it would be okay to put H centers on my 300 since the double bevel rims I had were not in good shape. I saved the 300 centers so I can put them back on if I ever do find double bevel rims around here to put on it.

Dblair, 36 in rims on the H and M were used only in 1939, possibly into 1940, haven't checked lately.

The rims are drop center, therefore they can be 36" - 38" or even 40" on same wheel far as I know. I had a 9" 10" and 11" on my two H tractors. What ever had a tire mounted at the time of need I guess.
